A US federal judge in Washington has ruled that five Algerians, imprisoned at Guantanamo Bay have been illegally detained and has ordered their release.
The judgement comes after a landmark Supreme Court ruling in June that gave Guantanamo prisoners the legal right to challenge their continued confinement. Some 250 prisoners languish at the Guantanamo military base in southern Cuba. US President-elect Barack Obama has promised to close the prison camp after he takes office in January.
